Bricsys Customer Account Access and Revoke Procedure Explained
We wish to inform you of an important Bricsys support policy that every BricsCAD customer must be aware of and follow religiously.
By receiving this email, you acknowledge that you are aware of the rule and will abide by the same.
When you purchase BricsCAD, you get a license key, which is used to activate the software on the computer where you will be using BricsCAD.
Now, during the course of using BricsCAD, every user can encounter either of the two situations as explained below:
- They may want to transfer the license from one computer to another.
- They may want to upgrade their computer hardware or operating system
- They may want to scrap the old computer and buy a new one.
Before doing EITHER of the above, you MUST deactivate your BricsCAD license from the computer. When you deactivate the BricsCAD license, it gets “released”, and the BricsCAD license server will now recognize the license as “not in use” or “free to activate again”.
If you follow the prescribed procedure, you can activate and deactivate the license (and thus transfer the license) unlimited times.
Now, there are many situations where the user may not get a chance to deactivate the license. Some of them are:
- The user has lost the computer.
- The computer does not start, has crashed, and the user is unable to access the software to deactivate it.
- The user’s company has shipped the computer to another location, and the user has no access to the same.
In the above situation, the only option now available to the user is to revoke the license.
However, before jumping in to revoke, the user must check with their company if it is still possible to gain access to the computer. This is because, in the longer term, deactivating the license is a much easier option than revoking it. Even if you are able to trace the computer, please remember that deactivating the license is possible only if the BricsCAD running is still installed and running with the same activation. If the computer has been formatted in the meantime, it is not possible to deactivate the license even if you find the computer. Knowing the hostid of the old computer also is not a solution, and we cannot deactivate the license based on the hostid.
Revoking a BricsCAD license activation is a last resort step. You must do it from your customer account on www.bricsys.com . Revoking the BricsCAD license is not done from BricsCAD software. It is done from your customer account login on your browser.
How many revoke chances does a license have?
Please note that every license key comes with two chances to revoke the license by the users themselves. Beyond the two times that revoke has been done, you can request the Bricsys support back-end to do an additional revoke only if you are on an active Maintenance plan. In other words, old users who have an expired Maintenance and have not renewed it are not eligible for ‘revoke license’ support from the back end. This is being enforced strictly. Such users must purchase an upgrade to the current version with Maintenance to resume access to the software. We request our users to strictly follow the established procedure for activating and deactivating licenses. This is a policy enforced by Bricsys and not by Designsense.
How do I login to my customer account?
- You can access your customer account on the https://www.bricsys.com website. Click on the “Log in” item near the top right hand side.
- Enter your registered email id to login. This is the email id what you provided at the time of ordering BricsCAD. If you know your email id and password, just enter the same and login normally.
- If you have forgotten your password or not yet registered (first time user), click on the link which says “Register using”:
- Registering your account is simple. Just enter your email id and get an account confirmation and password reset link on your email, and complete the registration process.
How do I revoke the license after logging in?
- Once you log in, click on “Licenses and support contracts”
- You will see your licenses similar to the screen you see below
- Now, you can get various information about your licenses, like activation details, host id of the computer etc. To access this information, click on the pencil icon next to the license key.
- By clicking in the X button in the license record, you can revoke the activations. Next to it, there is also an option to download the license file.
At the time of license revoke, you are also asked to provide a reason why you are revoking the license. You will also be presented with a message reminding you that deactivation is the first option you must try.
What are the best practices to follow in your organization?
- The number one rule is that you must share this email and the deactivation / revoke procedure with your manager, business owner of the responsible IT staff.
- If you have outsourced your IT support tasks to a third-party company or an individual, it is your responsibility to inform them and get an assurance of understanding and following the same.
Failure to follow these instructions may result in you getting denied the ability to revoke your license activation, and this may result in you having to buy a new upgrade license.
